What is Bluetooth?

May 12th, 2011

We go straight to the source and get Bluetooth executive director Michael Foley to wirelessly transmit an answer to this query.

Bluetooth technology is a short-ranged wireless communications technology to replace the cables connecting electronic devices, allowing a person to have a phone conversation via a headset, use a wireless mouse and synchronize information from a mobile phone to a PC, all using the same core system.

The Bluetooth RF transceiver operates in the unlicensed ISM band centered at 2.4 gigahertz (the same range of frequencies used by microwaves and Wi-Fi). The core system uses a frequency-hopping transceiver to combat interference and fading. Read the rest of this entry »

Hacking Bluetooth Devices

October 20th, 2010

BlueBugger: BlueBugger attacks the BlueBug. BlueBug
is a set of Bluetooth security holes that are found in some
Bluetooth enabled devices like the mobile phone. By hacking
these security holes one can gain unauthorized access to the
call lists, phonebook and other information that is
private.

Bluesnarfer:
Bluesnarfer downloads phonebooks from any
mobile device that is vulnerable to
Bluesnarfing. This a serious security flaw
discovered in most of the Bluetooth enabled
mobile devices. Many people are shocked to
discover this flaw. A vulnerable mobile phone
has all the possibilities of being hacked.
Access to mobile phones can be gained without
alerting the owner. Due to this the hacker can
get access to all the private
information.

Btcrack: BTcrack is a Bluetooth PIN cracking tool.
BTcrack change or reconstruct the password and Link key from
hacked Pairing exchanges.

BlueTest: It is a Perl script which is designed to
extract data from vulnerable Bluetooth devices like the mobile
phone.

All About Bluetooth Hack And More

September 5th, 2010

Discovering Bluetooth Devices: It is proved by the
Government Computer News Lab. It is also true that if extra
precaution is taken and the wireless devices are updated then a
serious crime like Bluetooth hack can be avoided. Bluetooth
uses radio frequencies to transfer data from one device to
another, while the WiFi establishes connection on a node and a
network by using IP addresses. Bluetooth is less complicated;
it creates small and simple connections among two peripherals.
The Bluetooth does not require the exchange of IP addresses.
This characteristic of the Bluetooth makes it safer than the
WiFi. Data is transferred from one Bluetooth device to another
during periodic pings. The WiFi on the other hand establishes a
consistent connection that can be easily intercepted by a third
party.

BlueScanner:
BlueScanner searches for Bluetooth enabled
devices like the mobile phone. It tries to
extract exact information of the recently
discovered devices. Usage of the same is not
very difficult.

BlueSniff: BlueSniff is based on
GUI utility. It is used to discover hidden
Bluetooth enabled devices. BTBrowser: BTBrowser
is a J2ME application that browses and explores
technical specification of the surrounding
Bluetooth enabled devices.

The device information is easily accessible and you can
easily browse information of all the supported files. BTBrowser
works on devices that support Java Bluetooth specification.
BTCrawler: BTCrawler is a scanner used for Windows Mobile
devices. It also scans for devices within its range and does a
service query.

Don’t Be Vulnerable To Bluetooth Hacking

July 22nd, 2010

Bluetooth Hacking is extremely popular these days especially
with the software that are available to hackers.

Of course, it makes people vulnerable to Bluetooth hack
because of the cell phone units and laptops that have Bluetooth
devices in them. These hackers are now equipped to gain access
to any Bluetooth device made available to them.

Bluetooth works when two Bluetooth enabled devices
communicate with each other. Before they can do that, they need
to be able to find each other first. The Bluetooth device
should be made available so they can be found by the other
Bluetooth device. However, this is also the time when the cell
phone or laptop is vulnerable for attacks.

Most cell phone units are the ones who have fallen victim to
Bluetooth hacking. There are many kinds of attacks and they can
either be in the following forms: bluesnarfing, bluejacking and
bluebugging. Bluesnarfing means unauthorized access to a
Bluetooth enabled device so the person could steal personal
information or files. We can protect ourselves from
bluesnarfing if our phones are not in discoverable mode.
Another type of bluetooth hacking is bluejacking which is
relatively harmless as it only involves somebody sending you an
electronic business card. The one who has sent you that card is
probably in the same room with you. Last but not the least is
Bluebugging, which is another type of bluetooth hacking. It
enables the person to listen in on your phone conversations,
make calls and send or receive text messages using your
account. This is quite similar to the first type but this is
more used on the older types of phones.

The Danger Of Bluetooth Hacks

April 23rd, 2010

To whom much is given, much is expected. Whoever said that
was really wise. This wise saying can be applied to today’s day
and age as we have been given much in terms of technology and
gadgets. And we know that with these gadgets are dangers that
we do not want to happen to us. It is simply, not wanting to be
hacked. That is one of the things that we hope, pray and take
extra precautions of so it will not happen to us.

Technology gives us an easier life and it
keeps us on the go and always on our feet. It
makes life exciting, and it makes us
comfortable. But there is also the negative
side of technology and that is hacking. Gadgets
(and of course us) will always be vulnerable to
malicious beings who have much to gain with
basic information about us. That is the
downside of technology. There are many kinds of
ways on how to get personal information from
us. Such as bluetooth hacking.

Hacking come in many forms and most of our gadgets are
bluetooth enabled. We always have to remember that these people
do not always intend to get personal information but they are
out to do us harm such as spreading of viruses. So be careful
because there are different kinds of people out there, some can
be more evil than others. Description: The article warns us
from the dangers of bluetooth hacking.
